Matapedia River

Let the Matapedia River current bring you from a pool to the other in one of my safe and comfortable canoe. Matapedia River is one of the river where the run size of Atlantic salmons still be the more stable in the province of Quebec. Between 3000 and 5000 salmons are going up the river every year. The Matapedia River is very easy to access by the road 132 which runs parallel to the entire river. It's possible to wade the majority of the pools however I recommend to use a canoe during the spring fishing or if you use only a single hand rod. In begining of June, I suggest to use sinking tips and we mostly fish with big wet flies, streamers and speys. From July, you can only use floating lines and even if we mostly fish with wet flies, the dry flies begins to give better results from the middle of this month.
I provide my guiding service in sector number 3 of this wonderfull river. This sector begins in the town of Causapscal with the renown pool ''The Forks'' and ends up just a bit downstream the bridge of Routhierville. Salmon fishing in Matapedia River begins first of June and last untill end of September. The first three weeks of fishing are suitable for the catch of big salmons but the prime time starts from around June 24th. The ''Corporation de Gestion des Rivière Matapédia et Patapédia'' (CGRMP) is assuming the management of the Matapedia River.
